North Carolina defensive driving courses provide drivers with knowledge and techniques to learn safe driving practices. Drivers may participate in a driver improvement program at local schools throughout the state to reduce the number of demerit points from your NC driving record, dismiss a traffic ticket or earn a car insurance discount. Drivers education in North Carolina is required by the Division of Motor Vehicles for first-time drivers who want to apply for a learner’s permit. North Carolina Drivers Education
North Carolina teen drivers are required to meet certain requirements before obtaining a full NC driver’s license.
North Carolina DMV requires drivers who are at least 14-and-a-half years of age to complete a driver education course approved by the Division of Motor Vehicles as part of the requirements to get a learner’s permit. Enrolling in an NC drivers ed course requires fulfilling three phases: a 30-hour classroom training, an eye exam and behind-the-wheel driving instruction.

North Carolina Defensive Driving
The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles requires drivers to complete a state-approved defensive driving class for the reasons listed below:
• Driver’s license reinstatement
• Court- mandated order • Point reduction • Insurance premium reduction • Voluntary/personal education
Drivers can only enroll in a classroom New York driver improvement program. The in-classroom driver improvement course requires drivers to complete classroom instruction that consists of 30 hours.
